A Guatemalan national, Mario Armando Crisostomo-Crisostomo, was sentenced to four months in prison on August 1, 2025, for unlawfully reentering the United States after being previously removed. Law enforcement officials discovered Crisostomo-Crisostomo in Leake County on April 28, 2025, during a traffic stop where he was found driving without a license or insurance. He had been removed from the country in 2018 following a conviction for illegal entry in the Southern District of Texas.

Crisostomo-Crisostomo was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 6, 2025.

Acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Mississippi Patrick A. Lemon stated: “Acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Mississippi, Patrick A. Lemon and Eric P. DeLaune, Special Agent-in-Charge for Homeland Security Investigations in New Orleans, Louisiana; and Brian Acuna, Acting Field Office Director of ICE/ERO in New Orleans, made the announcement.”

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney C. Brett Grantham.

Homeland Security Investigations led the investigation as part of Operation Take Back America (https://www.justice.gov/dag/media/1393746/dl?inline). This initiative uses resources from across the Department of Justice to address illegal immigration and related criminal activity by coordinating efforts through programs such as Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
