On November 13, a section of State Route 25 in Tishomingo County was dedicated as the Dr. Kelly S. Segars, Sr. and Martha Segars Memorial Highway. The dedication ceremony took place at Iuka City Hall, with around 100 attendees present. Commissioner John Caldwell of the Northern Transportation District led the event alongside Senator Daniel Sparks and Iuka Mayor Kenny Carson.

The highway honors Dr. Kelly S. Segars, Sr., a respected family doctor and community leader, and his wife Martha Segars, who contributed significantly to local healthcare and civic initiatives. Chris Cornelison, a friend of the Segars family, remarked on Dr. Segars’ compassion and lasting impact: “True leaders don’t just create waves, they create ripples that have impacts long after they’re gone.”

Dr. Kelly Segars played a key role in establishing several community projects including the Iuka Airport (now Kelly Segars Field) and First American National Bank, which expanded to ten offices across six counties under his leadership for over four decades.

Martha Segars was instrumental in her roles at Iuka Hospital and later at First American National Bank as Director of Marketing and Public Relations. Her work extended to designing homes and businesses and leading tourism initiatives like “Trash & Treasures Along the Tenn-Tom.”

Both Dr. Kelly and Martha were active volunteers on various boards, earning recognition for their service to Mississippi’s development.

The dedication follows House Bill 120 from the 2024 Regular Session of the Mississippi Legislature designating this highway segment in memory of their contributions to Tishomingo County.
