A Jackson man has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. According to court documents, Domique Desha Mathews, 30, was stopped by Ridgeland Police and found with two firearms. One of the weapons was a Glock pistol equipped with a machinegun conversion device, commonly known as a “switch,” which is illegal under both federal and state law. Mathews had previously been convicted of attempted house burglary and is barred by federal law from owning firearms or ammunition.
Mathews was indicted by a federal grand jury on June 11, 2025, and pleaded guilty to the charge on May 21, 2025.
Acting U.S. Attorney Patrick A. Lemon for the Southern District of Mississippi and Special Agent in Charge Joshua Jackson of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives announced the sentencing.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Allen prosecuted it.
This prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America (https://www.justice.gov/dag/media/1393746/dl?inline), an initiative that brings together resources from across the Department of Justice to address illegal immigration issues, dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime. The operation coordinates efforts through programs such as the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
