MGCCC iMPAC Announces Slate of New Shows for Spring/Summer
Four national touring acts, two with Mississippi ties, will bring excitement this spring and summer to the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Immersive Media Performing Arts Center (iMPAC) at the Harrison County Campus.
All shows are on Friday nights, starting at 8. Here are the details of the spring-summer lineup:
•Paul & The Broken Bones with special guest Rett Madison, February 3: Paul Janeway’s impassioned vocals drive a genre-bending convergence of rock ’n’ roll, soul, R&B, and funk. This eight-piece band from Birmingham, Alabama, has shared stages with The Rolling Stones, Lizzo, and Black Pumas and played such renowned festivals as Coachella, Lollapalooza, Glastonbury, and Bonnaroo. Achingly confessional singer-songwriter Rett Madison opens the show.
•An Evening with Valerie June, March 3: Multi-instrumentalist, poet, and author Valerie June, who began her career in Memphis, Tennessee, blends folk, soul, blues, and traditional Appalachian music into a refreshingly timeless sound. Her song “Call Me a Fool,” featuring legendary Memphis singer Carla Thomas, earned a 2022 Grammy nomination for Best American Roots Song. Her spellbinding vocals and infectious sense of wonder create a powerful feeling of joyful possibility.
•Tig Notaro, April 14: Born in Jackson and raised in Pass Christian, Tig Notaro wrote, produced, and starred in One Mississippi, a semiautobiographical comedy series on Amazon. She is a public radio contributor, podcaster, and frequent talk show guest, and received Grammy nominations for two comedy albums. Most recently, she joined the season 3 cast of the Apple TV+ drama The Morning Show, starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. Her stand-up performances are wry, sharply observed, and immensely relatable.
•Chapel Hart, July 14: With Mississippi roots and Louisiana spice, Chapel Hart has captivated the country music scene worldwide, winning accolades everywhere from Nashville to the United Kingdom and beyond. Sisters Danica and Devynn Hart and cousin Trea Swindle grew up singing together in Poplarville and honed their skills busking on the streets of New Orleans. Their Dolly Parton-inspired single “You Can Have Him Jolene” won awards in Scotland and hit number one on iTunes.
