Mississippi’s Agriculture Commissioner, Andy Gipson, is urging residents to support local farmers by purchasing Christmas trees grown within the state. Gipson encourages families to have a “Genuine Mississippi” Christmas by selecting a tree from one of the nearly 30 Christmas tree farms across Mississippi.

“Our team at the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce has made it simple to find a fresh, real Christmas tree,” Gipson said. He recommended visiting MSChristmasTrees.com for a comprehensive list of farms and information on the types of trees available in Mississippi, along with tips for maintaining their health during the holidays.

The state’s Christmas tree farms produce thousands of trees annually, including popular varieties like Leyland cypress and Eastern redcedar. These real trees are biodegradable and environmentally friendly. Purchasing them supports local farmers and contributes to the state’s economy.

“Many of these local Christmas tree farms offer family-friendly experiences,” Gipson added. Activities such as hot chocolate stations, Christmas lights, wagon rides, and photo opportunities are available to enhance the holiday experience.

Most farms will open around Thanksgiving Day or during that weekend. Some offer pre-tagging services for those who wish to reserve a tree for later pickup. Detailed information about each farm can be accessed at www.mschristmastrees.com.
