The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) has launched its “Road to Game Day” campaign, aiming to ensure safe travel for football fans heading to games. The initiative provides guidance on how to reach game day destinations safely and punctually.

Brad White, MDOT Executive Director, emphasized the importance of safety during the football season: “Football season is an exciting time in our state, and we want to make sure that everyone makes it to and from the game safely.” He advised drivers to avoid distractions by putting their phones down, slowing down in work zones, and using a designated driver if necessary.

To assist with travel planning and congestion avoidance on game days, MDOT offers a free Traffic App. This app provides real-time road conditions and traffic alerts. Additional travel information can be accessed through MDOTtraffic.com.

The “Road to Game Day” campaign not only focuses on timely arrivals but also prioritizes the safety of both drivers and roadside workers. With increased traffic during game days, MDOT stresses caution and smart driving practices. Safety tips include never drinking and driving, staying attentive on the road, adhering to speed limits, exercising caution in work zones, wearing seat belts correctly, and securing loads properly.
