The Mississippi Egg Marketing Board (MEMB), in collaboration with the Mississippi Poultry Association, Mississippi State University Department of Poultry Science, and the Mississippi Beef Council, has announced the winners of the 2025 Mississippi State Fair Omelet Cook-off. The event took place during Mississippi 4-H Day at the State Fair, featuring 15 contestants from various 4-H chapters across the state.
Evie and Charlie Haffey from Itawamba County 4-H secured first place with their “Star Spangled Omelet,” earning a $75 cash prize. Ellie Haffey, also from Itawamba County 4-H, won second place with “Ellie’s Flavorful Founding Farmer’s Omelet” and received a $50 cash prize. Henry Klein from Madison County 4-H took third place with his “All-American Cheeseburger Omelet,” winning $25.
The Best Beef omelet award, presented by the Mississippi Beef Council, went to Kairi and Zelda Robertson from Madison County 4-H for their “Birria Steak Omelet,” earning them a $25 prize. Additionally, Evie and Charlie Haffey were awarded another $25 for the “Best Patriotic Costume.”
Ryn Laster, MEMB President and Mistress of Ceremonies, remarked on the creativity displayed by participants: “Each contestant brings their own unique style to the competition, and this year, celebrating the Great American Mississippi State Fair was an added treat.” She expressed admiration for the enthusiasm and creativity shown by young cooks.
Judges for this year’s cook-off included Dr. Angus Catchot and Dr. Trent Irby from MSU Extension; Angela Evans from WLBT’s Studio 3; and James Faison from Mar-Jac Poultry Mississippi.
