Mississippi State track and field reported on May 15 that the team concluded the second day of the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships with a new individual title, a bronze-medal finish, and several personal bests.
The results are significant for Mississippi State as they mark continued progress for the program, including breaking long-standing records and earning national rankings.
Sacha Rifflart won six out of ten events in the decathlon to secure Mississippi State’s first SEC title in that event in 24 years. Rifflart maintained his lead throughout both days of competition, finishing with a score of 7,507 points. This performance ranks him nineteenth nationally and is now the fourth-highest point total in school history. Nelly Jemeli achieved her first SEC podium finish by taking bronze in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:47.10, which also set a new program record.
Roury McCloyen reached his fourth consecutive SEC shot put final and finished fifth with an effort measuring 19.43 meters. Nicholas Fakorede qualified for his first SEC 100-meter final after running a time-qualifying mark of 10.18 seconds; he will compete in the final tomorrow evening.
The conference championships will conclude tomorrow, with several Mississippi State athletes set to compete further on both track and field events. The meet will be available for streaming on SECN+.
