The Ole Miss softball team advanced to the Lubbock Regional final after defeating Boston University in an elimination game on May 17. The Rebels secured a 9-4 victory, following a narrow extra-innings loss earlier in the day to Texas Tech.
The outcome keeps Ole Miss’s postseason hopes alive for at least one more game this season. After falling 10-9 in eight innings against Texas Tech, the Rebels responded with strong offensive performances and timely pitching to eliminate Boston University.
In their first game of the day, Kennedy Bunker started things off with a leadoff home run, while Emilee Boyer carried a no-hit bid into the fifth inning and struck out four through five scoreless frames. Rachel Connors contributed significantly with a three-run home run that extended Ole Miss’s lead. Despite leading by eight runs entering the seventh inning, Ole Miss saw Texas Tech rally back and ultimately lose on a walk-off sacrifice fly in extra innings.
Facing elimination against Boston University, Madi George hit an early two-run home run for Ole Miss. Persy Llamas added another two-run shot in the third inning as part of an offensive surge that gave them control of the game. Senior pitcher Kyra Aycock helped preserve the lead by escaping a bases-loaded jam with consecutive strikeouts before Boyer returned in relief to secure key outs late in the contest.
The Rebels will play again Sunday for a rematch against Texas Tech and must win twice to advance beyond regionals. The next game is scheduled for 3 p.m. Central Time and will be televised on ESPN2.
