Officials in Madison, Mississippi, marked the completion of a significant phase of the Reunion Parkway project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The event celebrated the construction of a bridge connecting Bozeman Road to Parkway East over Interstate 55. This development is part of ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure in Madison County.

Mississippi Transportation Commission Chairman Willie Simmons emphasized the project’s importance for local transportation. “Today is another step forward in making our roads safer, more efficient and better equipped to handle the economic growth and progress throughout Madison County,” he said. He highlighted that projects like this help expand capacity, reduce congestion, and modernize infrastructure for residents and businesses.

The ceremony took place on the new roadway near the intersection of Reunion Parkway and Bozeman Road. Notable speakers included Commissioner Simmons, Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann, Former Speaker of the Mississippi House Philip Gunn, President of the Madison County Board Gerald Steen, and Congressman Michael Guest’s District Director Brady Stewart.

Lt. Governor Hosemann remarked on the significance of the day: “Today is a day to celebrate. Congratulations to all of you who worked on all of this. It is a very special day.” He expressed hopes for future celebrations along I-55 between Gluckstadt and Madison.

The new road section is set to open early Friday morning, completing an east-west corridor from Bozeman Road to U.S. 51. The previous segment from U.S. 51 to Parkway East was finished in 2023.

Former House Speaker Gunn praised local growth: “You should be congratulated…the necessity for this road—is a reflection on the quality of life here in Madison County.”

Construction began in December 2023 with Hemphill Construction Company winning a bid amounting to nearly $32 million. Federal funding contributed $4 million through an earmark, while Waggoner Engineering managed design and inspection tasks.

Commissioner Simmons acknowledged community collaboration: “Everyone here…understand what the goal and vision is here.” He assured that more developments are anticipated.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation’s Local Public Agencies Division supervises such projects funded by FHWA. More information can be found at GoMDOT.com.
