U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Senator Deb Fischer arrived in Taipei, Taiwan at approximately 11:00 a.m. local time on August 29, 2025.

During their visit to Taiwan, the senators are scheduled to meet with President Lai, Vice President Hsiao, National Security Council Secretary General Joseph Wu, representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other senior officials.

Upon arrival, Chairman Wicker said: “Taiwan is one of our country’s most reliable partners in the Indo-Pacific region. Our continued cooperation is critical amid what I regard as the most perilous threat environment we have faced since World War II. The Taiwanese people, the success of their highly advanced economy, and their resolve to live in a free society, are a symbol of hope for the world. I’m glad to be here and to stand shoulder to shoulder with the free people of Taiwan as we work together to enhance their right to self-determination.”

Senator Fischer added: “America’s decades-long partnership with Taiwan has been anchored in growth to democracy, freedom, and economic opportunity — creating not only greater prosperity for our people, but also greater stability for the world. I am pleased to be meeting with Taiwanese officials and discuss how we can advance our shared goal of a free and open Indo-Pacific and strengthen the enduring friendship of our peoples.”
