NFIB State Director Leah Long spoke about the current state of small business optimism in Mississippi during an interview on “Mornings with Richard Cross,” broadcast statewide on the SuperTalk Mississippi network.

Long highlighted a recent improvement in small business sentiment, attributing it to legislative action regarding tax policy. “Here lately, optimism for small business owners actually has increased just because the 20% Small Business Deduction was made permanent,” Long said. The deduction, previously set to expire at the end of the year, was extended as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. “That was a huge deal,” she said.

She explained that making this deduction permanent helps small businesses plan for the future and remain competitive with larger companies. “By making the deduction permanent, Congress made is easier for small businesses to plan ahead and stay competitive with larger corporations,” Long said.
