State Route 7 in Oxford is set to undergo a significant transformation with a groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for December 2. The event will take place at the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) Maintenance office located at 495 Highway 7 S., Oxford, MS.
The ceremony marks the beginning of a project aimed at widening State Route 7 to four lanes. This expansion will stretch from the SR 7/Belk Boulevard intersection to County Road 370, just south of the SR 7/9 roundabout. The construction work includes grading, drainage, bridge building, and paving.
The $138.7 million contract for this project has been awarded to Talbot Bros. Construction based in Nesbit. The project is expected to be completed by fall 2029.
Key figures attending the ceremony include Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann, Commissioner John Caldwell of the Northern Transportation District, Oxford Mayor Robyn Tannehill, and MDOT Executive Director Brad White.
