Lane and intersection closures are scheduled on U.S. 82 in Oktibbeha County as the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) plans to install a Low Cost Directional Median. The closures will occur on Tuesday, October 28, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the intersection of U.S. 82 and County Lake Rd.

The temporary lane closures aim to enhance safety at the intersection by directing motorists entering U.S. 82 from County Lake Rd. to make only right-hand turns, either east or west. Drivers must then merge into the left lane and execute a left turn or u-turn at the nearest median crossover to continue in their desired direction.

Once installation is complete, left turns from U.S. 82 onto County Lake Rd. will be possible again. MDOT advises drivers to reduce speed and remain vigilant for workers during this period.

The initiative is part of MDOT’s efforts to implement a more permanent solution known as a Restricted Crossing U-Turn (RCUT). RCUTs have been shown to improve safety by reducing right-angle crashes, which are often responsible for severe accidents at rural intersections.
