Earlier this month, President Donald J. Trump signed the “One Big Beautiful Bill” (OBBB) into law on July 4, marking a significant legislative achievement for his administration. The bill aligns with the President’s policy agenda from his 2024 campaign and aims to benefit American farmers and workers.

The OBBB provides substantial tax relief by preventing impending tax increases set to occur with the expiration of the Tax Cut and Jobs Act of 2017. It permanently raises the Estate Tax exemption level to $15 million, offers immediate expensing benefits, and makes permanent a 20% business income deduction. These measures are intended to support American family farms and businesses.

Additionally, the OBBB addresses uncertainties in agricultural policy following the expiration of the federal Farm Bill in 2023. It strengthens key programs like Title I Commodity and Title XI Crop Insurance while investing in animal disease prevention to protect food supplies.

The bill also includes provisions aimed at reducing the agricultural trade deficit through investments in USDA market access programs. It supports local agriculture by doubling investments in Specialty Crop Research and expanding grants for fresh produce.

In terms of government spending, the OBBB seeks to save taxpayers up to $186 billion by reforming the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). It reinstates work requirements for certain recipients and shifts more financial responsibility to states starting in 2027.

Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson highlighted these achievements as major policy successes for both Mississippi farmers and Americans nationwide. The signing coincided with America’s 250th birthday celebrations, which began on July 4, 2025.
