A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for August 27, 2025, to mark the completion of the U.S. Highway 82 Greenville Bypass and the dedication of the Anse Dees Memorial Highway in Greenville, Mississippi. The event will take place at 10 a.m. on the new bypass under the Main Extd. bridge.
Key figures attending include U.S. Representative Bennie Thompson, Mississippi Transportation Commission Chairman Willie Simmons, former Senator Buck Clark, Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons, Carl McGee, President of the Washington County Board of Supervisors, and Brad White, Executive Director of the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT), among others.
The bypass project began in 2022 and involved constructing nearly 16 miles of four-lane highway from Leland to the Mississippi River Bridge. The new route aims to divert vehicles carrying hazardous materials away from residential and business areas along U.S. 82 in Greenville. This change is expected to reduce traffic congestion and enhance driving conditions throughout Washington County.
The bypass has been officially designated as the “Anse Dees Memorial Bypass” following Senate Bill 2532 passed during the 2012 session of the Mississippi Legislature.
Law enforcement will be present at the State Route 1 entrance ramp to manage access during the event. Media personnel are advised to bring identification or credentials for entry onto the closed bypass.
