Lights on Afterschool Day! Launched in October 2000, Lights On Afterschool is the only nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families and communities. Lights on Afterschool is a project of the nationwide Afterschool Alliance to celebrate afterschool programs and help build awareness of the critical need for more afterschool resources and affordable programming.
The Afterschool Alliance organizes Lights On Afterschool to draw attention to the many ways afterschool programs support students by offering them opportunities to learn new things—such as, visual and performing arts, fitness and sports, robotics, community engagement—and discover new skills. This event sends a powerful message that millions more kids need quality afterschool programs.
JPS Lights on Afterschool Day pictures will be shared on social media. In partnership with MSAN (Mississippi Statewide Afterschool Network), Jackson Public School district offers afterschool programming at all elementary, middle, and high schools.
