NFIB is urging Governor Tate Reeves to sign important legislation aimed at bolstering Mississippi's agricultural sector. The organization highlights the broader commitment these bills represent for supporting local farmers, crucial to the state's economy.
“These bills extend beyond just tax relief,” said NFIB State Director Leah Long. “They reflect a broader commitment to supporting Mississippi’s agricultural community, which is vital to the state’s economy.” The proposed legislation includes:
- HB 1878/SB 2968: Clarifies property tax assessments for poultry farmers.
- SB 2204: Establishes a centralized registry for reports of stolen agriculture-related items.
- SB 2266: Requires the Mississippi Department of Revenue to publish a list of items eligible for sales tax exemptions or reduced tax rates for commercial farmers.
“By signing this package into law, Governor Reeves can help ensure that farmers have the resources they need to invest in their operations, sustain their businesses, and continue feeding Mississippi and beyond.”
The Farmers Relief Package aims to provide essential support for the state's agricultural sector, encouraging reinvestment in farming operations that will benefit local economies and food production.
NFIB represents numerous small business owners across Mississippi, including many involved in agriculture. Long emphasized that the package would enhance the business environment for farmers and rural communities.
“We urge Governor Reeves to stand with small farmers and rural businesses by signing these bills into law,” Long said. “Mississippi’s economy depends on a thriving agricultural industry, and this legislation is a step in the right direction.”
