NFIB has expressed approval of the Mississippi House and Senate's initiatives to provide tax relief for small businesses in the state. According to NFIB State Director Leah Long, both chambers are aware of the challenges faced by Main Street businesses and are committed to reducing the financial burden on taxpayers.
Both legislative bodies have put forward proposals aimed at lowering personal income tax rates, which would significantly impact small businesses and their customers. "While there are big differences between the House and Senate plans, it’s clear that both chambers understand the challenges facing Main Street businesses and share a commitment to easing the financial burden on Mississippi’s taxpayers," said Long.
Despite differences in their budget versions, there is optimism among small business members as leaders from both chambers work towards a compromise. Long stated, "While there are still big differences between the House and Senate versions of the budget, our small business members are encouraged that leaders in both chambers continue to seek common ground."
Long emphasized that NFIB members want legislators to find a solution offering necessary financial relief without introducing new fees or taxes that could increase living and business costs in Mississippi. "Our members are urging their legislators to continue working toward a solution that provides much-needed financial relief to small business owners and other taxpayers and avoids new fees and taxes that would drive up the cost of living and doing business in Mississippi," she added.
